Not much has been going on with us lately. We’re somewhat back into a routine now and other than some appointments, we haven’t had a whole lot going the past two weeks that was out of the norm.
Speaking of appointments, my boys have an upcoming one with the dentist. I really love their dentist. I had a horrible one as a child. He amazingly had to find a tooth to pull every single time I walked in the door. Funny how that tooth that was “right there and needed to come out to make room for the next tooth” sometimes managed to take 6 months or longer to emerge after the primary one was yanked. To top it off, he never believed me when I would say that I was not numb. He used to bring me into a room all alone, strap me down and have four assistants hold me down while he yanked out the tooth, with me feeling the entire thing and being scared half out of my mind. Then, I would be placed into another room to watch TV for a half hour until there was no trace of my having been crying. My mother had no idea what happened back then until recent years when I was telling her some of the things that went on. She only knew that I really hated the dentist and chalked it up to my being a kid. She did eventually bring me to a new dentist when I was in my teens and my brothers were born, but I was well traumatized by that point.
The reason she finally switched dentists? One of my cousins had a severe asthma attack in the chair at his office and they refused to go and get her parents and inhaler. Thank goodness she was ok, and my mother did the yanking this time.
I did have to have a cavity filled a few years ago…my first ever (though I still have some that need to be taken care of). Sure enough, the shot to numb me did not work the first two times. Eventually the guy found the right spot and was surprised that it took so long to find it. It was obvious when he found the right spot. I guess my nerves are a little jumbled or something. LOL A few months later I ended up having a tooth extracted and wouldn’t you know, they had to numb me twice and then a third time in the middle of the whole ordeal…..yeah, I love the dentists. LOL
Seriously though, if I had my children’s dentist back when I was a kid, I would have no fear today. I have never seen a child come out of there crying. They are always all smiles, balloon and goody bag in hand. And the dentist himself is AMAZING!!! Both of my boys are on the autism spectrum, so I was really worried about how they would do at a dentist office. Joshua still gets nervous, though mostly due to the seat moving. The dentist actually saw him a little uptight last time in, so he said he wanted to do the exam before they did the cleaning, just in case Josh couldn’t handle much that day. Holy moly, I could not believe it. This is exactly what he needs.
They have TVs in the ceilings, sunglasses to shade them from the lights, headphones to block the sounds….just perfect for the kids….and they NEVER push the kids into anything they are fearful of, like one of my sons’ major fear of the xray machine.
Enough about dentists *shudder*. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. I have a few new products in the store this week that were made especially for this occasion.
First up is a set of Six 3×4 Valentine Cards that were created using pieces from several of my kits.
And next is a brand new kit I named “I Heart You”.
And with that, I am off to bed. Have a great weekend, everyone!
